Design human review into AI workflows

Make the boundary between a generated suggestion and a real business action explicit in the product.

A useful draft is not an approved action

An AI system may prepare a reply, extract fields or suggest a follow-up. Each output still needs the same checks as any other untrusted input.

The product should distinguish between creating a suggestion and committing an action, particularly when that action sends information or changes a customer record.

Give the reviewer enough context

Show the original source where appropriate, identify fields that are missing and make corrections straightforward. Do not hide uncertainty behind a polished paragraph.

The reviewer should know what accepting the result will do and which external systems will be affected. Confirmation is not meaningful when the consequence is unclear.

Use application controls around the model

Permissions

Check the acting user in server code, independently of the model output.

Validation

Reject unsupported fields, invalid identifiers and actions outside the workflow.

Audit

Record what was suggested, what was approved and the action taken, subject to the agreed data-retention policy.

Evaluate review burden as well as output quality

A feature that produces plausible text but needs constant correction may not save time. Use representative examples to measure errors, corrections and failed tasks.

Keep a way to pause automation and return to the manual workflow while a problem is investigated.
